Owner/Management of 2020 Lakeside,

I brought my family to 2020 Lakeside for Mother's Day Brunch, which consisted of my Mother, Mother-in-Law, Sister, my son and my wife (who was celebrating her 1st Mother's Day). When we finally made it to the Host to take us to our table, he pointed to his left and said, "through those doors and down a couple of stairs". I was pushing my 6 month old in a stroller thinking that where he was sending us was just another area of the restaurant and would literally be a couple steps down. The Host stated in a stressed tone, with his head down, "Yes" and kept pointing to his left.   As we walked through the doors we were in the lobby of the Hotel and the couple of stairs the gentleman was talking about was actually a staircase that led to the basement. I CERTAINLY HOPE THE HOST WOULD HAVE REACTED/DIRECTED DIFFERENTLY WITH AN INDIVIDUAL IN A WHEELCHAIR and directed to an elevator.
We eventually made it downstairs and walked through the doors into the "Ballroom" and I froze in utter amazement as to where they were seating my family and I. We could here our comments/discussion (negative) reciprocated by the party being seated next to us.

The decor was horrible! Round tables with dirty linen draped over it. No centre pieces. We put our own centre pieces on the table with the potted flowers we brought for the Mom's. The buffet table had a Lobster Trap and boxes of pasta as the decor. We stood their contemplating whether to walk out and go somewhere else. Being the busiest day of the year for the restaurant industry we knew we wouldn't be able to get in anywhere else and decided to stay and tried to make the best of it.

The Menu features as per website

1. There was no Chef there to create fresh eggs benedict. The eggs benedict that was offered tasted processed!
2. The "Slow Roasted Prime Rib au jus" was over cooked and cool sitting in the steel tray over a candle.
3. There was no "Fish of the Day".
4. Pasta - Lasagna was over cooked.
5. Chicken was undercooked and the waiter was informed with no reply back
6. SEAFOOD STATION - Smoked Salmon, Mussels, some sort of grilled pieces of fish, Peel & Eat Shrimp, Crab Legs. None of these items were on ice, half the crab legs were missing meat inside of them, which I found odd.

I was uninformed about what my family and I were going to experience. The website talks about sitting in either "the window enclosed Ristorante dining room, Lakeside Patio or bar" with views of Lake Ontario, nothing about the ballroom in the basement and views of some bushes. The meal was nowhere near worth the price of what we paid, $170.

Quotes from the website:

"You wonder, can Tuscany be far off?" - It certainly better be.

"AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT - Reserve for Mother's Day 2008" - Unfortunately, DISAPPOINTMENT was the theme of our visit.

The information on your website is misleading and false advertising. I would guess that 2020 Lakeside does not offer basement seating for a regular Sunday afternoon brunch. Why offer it now, especially on Mother's Day? One explanation......MONEY! If you choose to do such a thing, at least tell your VALUED guests what to expect and certainly do not charge $30 a seat.
I am not one to complain, as nothing is perfect and I am definitely not one to take the time to write a lengthy letter. For a family that dines quite a bit and enjoys trying new places and tastes, this was our worst experience ever. I would normally speak to a Manager at the time, but did not want to interrupt an already hectic day for your staff and did not want to create a scene.

I don't have to remind you that you are in the service industry. The first person that the customer interacts with is the Greeter/Host/Hostess. Yesterday, the gentleman greeting was the wrong person to have in that role on a busy day. He obviously could not handle the stress.

I am filled with sheer embarrassment for suggesting and dining at 2020 Lakeside to celebrate Mother's Day with my Family.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS go a long way! The best way to advertise is "WORD OF MOUTH"!

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response.

Regretfully,

Bryan Takahashi
