My mother-in-law died on May 1st. She lived in Venezuela. American Airlines had the most convenient schedule to get to the viewing on time. Like so many other airlines who are cutting corners in service, American no longer includes meals on national flights even if the flight is over dinner time and the flight is longer than 3 1/2 hours. I was in row 27 tonight. They were selling sandwiches for dinner at 5 dollars a piece. Time kept going by and no dinner sandwich. I finally paged a flight attendant and he said that they ran out of sandwiches (thanks for letting us know). In compensation he gave me a cup of coffee and a "complimentary" choclate chip cookie. WOW! American knew how many people were booked on that plane, but to their negligence or flagrant lack of customer focus they did not stock enought sandwiches for their flying passengers. I paid $1425 for a ticket to see my deceased mother-in-law and you think that this airline could at least stock enough sandwiches for purchase to feed their passengers. This is really crappy customer service. I would expect more from this airline. I am a frequent flyer. We flew American from Caracas, Venezuela. The plane was late in departure and then we had to sprint though immigration, customs and security to then sprint on to our gate to barely make our plane with no dinner. We connected in San Juan and ended our Oddesey in Philadelphia. I will try to avoid American Airlines for now on due to poor customer focus and chronic lateness in getting you to your connecting flight. I think Continental Airlines does a much better job.
