In December of 2007, we hired America's Moving Services to move our belongings from Crested Butte, CO to Charleston, SC. Our move reference number was 1191142. America’s Moving Service’s license number is 1627965 and their MC # is 597701. America's Moving Services contracted the move to AD Supermover (a separate complaint is filed about this company). Our belongings were picked up on December 19th 2007 from Crested Butte, CO, and were delivered on December 31st to Charleston, SC. The belongings were picked up by AD Supermover, and were delivered by A-Plus Moving Corp. This sub-contract by AD Supermover to A-Plus Moving Corp. was a direct breach of their contract with America's Moving Services. AD Supermover should have done the entire move. It is our understanding that our belongings were damaged and lost between Crested Butte and a warehouse in Chicago. As soon as our belongings arrived, we knew that they had been damaged and some items had been lost. We immediately began calling America's Moving Services who told us to place our claim with AD Supermover. AD Supermover asked us to place a claim, which we did repeatedly. We tried to place this claim (they said that they kept losing it) 3 times between December 31st 2007 and March 12th 2008. After March 12, 2008, AD Supermover stopped communicating with us at all. We reinitiated contact with America's Moving Services, and on April 21st 2008, we received information from America's Moving Services about AD Supermover's insurance companies (Adriatic Insurance Company and Progressive Insurance Company). America's Moving Services told us that we needed to place our claim directly with them, which we did. By the end of April, we had received letters from both insurance companies indicating that our claim was not covered. AD Supermover only had coverage for property that was damaged by a force of nature (e.g. fire, flood, explosion, lightning) or major accident. Since receiving these letters, we have tried for a month to contact America's Moving Services. We have left more than a dozen messages and have sent a letter requesting that they cover the damages to our property and our lost items. We have not heard back from America’s Moving Services. The contract that we signed with America's Moving Services says that the actual mover is responsible for damages. However, America's Moving Services contracted out our move to a company with insufficient insurance. Therefore, they are ultimately responsible for our damaged and lost property. It is important that other consumers be made aware that this company has a policy of contracting out to movers without sufficient insurance. We are seeking compensation for our lost and damaged property.
