My daughter and I rented a car from Alamo through Orbitz. I reserved an economy car and declined an upgrade from the agent on site. We pre-paid the charge of $48 for the fuel service option for Alamo to fill the tank upon returning. When getting the vehicle, the agent in the parking lot wrote "free upgrade" on our booklet and instructed us to choose an SUV or truck. Although we were reluctant to do so, he once again pointed us toward a certain row of vehicles. We returned the SUV as we were told (on empty) and stood in horror as the employee informed us that they had charged an additional $40 to my daughter's charge card (without her permission). This unauthorized charge was for the additional fuel to fill the "free upgraded" vehicle! I feel that this "bait and switch" tactic is unprofessional and should be illegal! Customers, be aware that this could happen to any unsuspecting clients!I contacted Alamo immediately after returning home and have not received a response. I also contacted Orbitz, as I thought that they would appreciate knowing how Alamo treats its customers. The customer service agent seemed confused and put me on hold for at least 8 minutes. I then hung up the phone, so nothing has been resolved.
