My roommate Marcus, a loyal Alltel customer since 12/26/05, decided out of the kindness of his heart, to get a phone for me in July of this year (2007) to add as a second phone to his account. We have had service issues with Alltel, with calls dropping off and billing issues. When his plan was going to expire on 12/26/07 we were just going to cancel. Before that time, both of us made calls inquiring if there would be an early termination fee, and got ambiguous answers. Approximately one to two weeks prior to Christmas, I remembered calling Alltel and ending up speaking with a representative in the retention department, who told me there would NOT be an early termination fee. I reiterated that we had had two lines several times and he continued to say there would be no early termination fee.
I explicitly asked him to notate the account to that effect so when we go to cancel our account there would no problems since we have been getting the run around for a bit of time now. He indicated he notated the account for us.
Just yesterday (Sat. December 29, 2007) I called and asked to be transferred to the retention department, where I spoke with a supervisor. This supervisor, Jonathan Rodarte, insinuated I was lying because he states he does not see any notes like what I mentioned above, nor does he show any record of me speaking with anyone in retention. He refused to err on the side of the consumer and basically told me that early termination fee would NOT be waived, period. He stated that by adding another phone that would automatically extend the contract for two years from that point. I read through the terms and conditions from the alltel.com website and did not see anything pertaining to adding another phone would extend the contract. I asked for his supervisor, but said he was the highest level of supervisor there, which I did not believe, because I have been working in call centers for years, so basically he refused to get me to a higher supervisor.
Alltel is a company that does not go by its word to the consumer, along with shoddy customer service and business practices.
