My Wife and I relocated from Bakersfield California to Weaverville North Carolina this year.We had the misfortune of hiring Across America Moving and Storage to handle the move. Our First quote was $4050 by Michelle the represenative for the above mentioned company. After further conversations with Michelle it was raised to $7000 due to excess weight. This I was told was the total price. When the movers arrived I was told the price would have to be increased due to more weight than anticipated. The new price was $11000 and this was a binding price. The furniture was stored in California at Across America moving and Storage facility for two months. The first month was free and the second month $250.Upon arrival to our new home the driver said he could not access our home with an eighteen wheeler therefore an additional $1700 would have to be payed to hire four more workers and shuttle the furniture in a smaller truck.I called John who I think is a manager of the moving company and he told me if I did not pay an additional $1700 the furniture would be stored at my expense.I had to pay up front in cash to get our furniture unloaded. But wait it gets worse.Upon unloading the furniture was soaking wet and a lot of the antiques are ruined. It seems the truck used to transport the furniture had a leaking roof.Thr driver whose name was Boris was cavalier about the whole thing even suggesting we claim it on our homeowners insurance, which would be fraud.I have already contacted the State Attorney Generals Office in California to investigate this company for fraud.I will not rest until I get complete restitution and this company is put out of business.By the way the four additional workers hired three of them could not speak English and we could not communicate with them.
